Há milhares de anos, o aço vem sendo trabalhado pelo homem e com a revolução industrial e a inovação tecnológica, em meados dos séculos XIX e XX, os processos produtivos sofreram alterações significativas, com isso, a produção de aço evoluiu muito, hoje esse material ocupa uma posição de destaque mundialmente.

No Brasil, a exploração ocorreu graças à riqueza em minérios dos estados brasileiros, destacando Minas Gerais. Com a chegada da família real ao Brasil em 1808, surgiram as primeiras indústrias, entretanto, somente após a segunda metade do século XX que houve o avanço nas tecnologias produtivas de aço.

Conforme a nossa matéria anterior: Você sabe a diferença entre aço de construção civil ou aço mecânico industrial?, existem variações de tipos de aço, cada um com características e propriedades exclusivas. Alguns possuem maior resistência, outros são apropriados para a deformação.

O aço se aloca em diferentes nichos da economia, como por exemplo:

• Uso em energia
• Uso na agricultura
• Produção de recipientes
• Produção de veículos e automóveis
• Uso industrial na construção de máquinas
• Transportes como ferrovias, trens, embarcações e aviões
• Ferramentas e utensílios do cotidiano, como facas por exemplo
• Utilizado principalmente em construção civil, por ser uma liga versátil, custo baixo e boa qualidade. 

O Brasil é um dos maiores produtores mundiais de minério de Ferro e abriga 8,3% das reservas naturais, realizando a exportação líquida de aço para mais de 50 países. Em 2021 a indústria brasileira do aço foi responsável por 1,8% da produção mundial. A produção de aço bruto em 2021 cresceu de 14,8% para 36,1 milhões de toneladas, o Brasil se manteve entre os 10 maiores produtores de aço internacionais.

O parque produtor de aço no Brasil é constituído por 29 usinas, sendo o maior da América Latina e mantendo-se o 1º produtor da América Latina, produzindo 55,8% da produção de aço da região. A Udiaço opera com 5 destas usinas, no seguimento

de Aços Longos – Gerdau, Arcelor Mittal, Simec, Aço Verde Brasil e CSN..

Essa indústria brasileira é distribuída em 10 estados, entretanto há vasta concentração na Região Sudeste (São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro e Espírito Santo) que constitui aproximadamente 92% de produção de aço. Minas Gerais é o estado que tem uma forte concentração dessa produção, possui cerca de 31% do mercado nacional.

Com a pandemia, não só o Brasil, mas o mundo teve uma baixa no consumo de aço, ainda em 2021, houve uma queda no consumo aparente total por parte do setor de construção civil, com queda de 3,0 pontos percentuais e passou de 41,2% em 2020 para 38,2% em 2021. Mesmo com a redução da participação, esse setor continua como o maior consumidor de produtos siderúrgicos do Brasil.

Aspectos Socioambientais Atrelados ao Desenvolvimento Tecnológico

A indústria do aço tem o compromisso de reduzir os impactos ambientais de suas ações, por meio da otimização e aproveitamento das matérias primas, do uso consciente de água no processo produtivo e busca por eficiência energética. Nas últimas décadas houve pautas mundiais voltadas ao meio ambiente, é geral a aderência do conceito de economia circular no setor, isso possibilita a adoção de estratégias mais eficazes e menos nocivas ao ambiente, promovendo sustentabilidade.

é de sucata de ferro e aço? Sim uma grande cadeia de retorno dos resíduos de aço

das industrias canaliza esse material novamente para as usinas, contribuindo assim

para redução do impacto ambiental.

O setor industrial está continuamente em busca de inovações que tragam melhorias pontuais ao setor, além de realizar alterações com viés preventivo em seus processos produtivos, buscando menor extração de recursos não renováveis, priorizando tecnologias limpas, reaproveitamento e descarte zero.
